Constructing QEII Bridge

River Tyne

Providing a vital link between Gateshead and Newcastle to increase the expanse of the Metro across the region. The bridge spans 368 meters across the river. 400 tonnes of steel was used to create the bridge, with expansion joints allowing for temperature change of the steel.

In 2007 Nayan Kaylkarin was commissioned to create a new colour scheme and lighting scheme for the bridge. Nocturne saw the bridge painted a distinct blue. While at night 36 LED light floodlights were installed creating an ever changing pattern of coloured light across the bridge.
